Hey all, just when you were about to get a grasp of the no diving 300' from shore or in a public or private marina during mini lobster season in the Florida Keys they go and add even more confusing regulations to the pot. I'll try to get this straight, here goes: (1) No snorkeling or diving within 300' of shore in any man made canal or public or private marina the three days preceding Lobster Mini Season. (2) No snorkeling or diving within 300' of shore in any man made canal or public or private marina the 5 days after regular Lobster season opens. So the way I understand it is that beginning this Sunday, July 24.2011 you cannot snorkel or dive in front of your house or the house you're renting. And beginning August 6, 2011 you cannot snorkel or dive in front of your house or the house your renting until August 12, 2011. This means if I want to jump in the water with my snorkel gear on to check a fitting under my boat during those days I will be breaking the law. Ain't that pretty. I propose we just do away with the 2 day mini season altogether, it's getting way to confusing.

We need to get the word out to anyone who has a GPS. It doesn't matter if it's on your boat, iPhone, or other smart phone or in your car this concerns you. Your Government is considering a request from a new start up company to use our GPS Frequency to conduct their business. Here's a snippet from Boats US: A recent FCC decision to allow high-speed internet and cell phone service to use frequencies close to existing GPS radio frequencies could disrupt GPS signals and cause severe interference to a wide range of GPS receivers, including those used by boaters. On January 26, the FCC gave conditional approval to a private company, LightSquared, to build 40,000 ground stations within the U.S. that would transmit high powered signals in the middle of the existing satellite band of frequencies. As part of that conditional approval, FCC required that additional testing and a report be prepared on the service's potential to interfere with the GPS signals. That report was completed on June 30th and raises significant concerns for boaters and other users of GPS. Mel Fisher's treasure hunters found more Atocha Treasure. A large emerald ring and two silver spoons believed to come from Nuestra Senora de Atocha's sterncastle. Divers believe they're close to finding the sterncastle, where the largest part of the booty was kept. The large square emerald gold ring is valued at $500,000. Divers also came up with two silver spoons and a hinge and a lid, so it's possibly these are pieces from a jewelry box. Atocha's manifest, which Fisher's crew is using to identify artifacts indicated they have yet to find at least 100,000 coins, 400 silver bars and expensive personal jewelry at the sterncastle location.
