Staying in one of the Campgrounds in the Florida Keys makes your Vacation even more fun!
If it's campgrounds you're looking for in the Florida Keys, we have variety. You'll need to decide if you're going to spend your vacation at one of the Commercial Parks or at one of our beautiful State Parks. Both of these choices will provide many facilities for fun and comfort. The State Parks have great sandy beaches and beautiful tropical vegetation, most of it native.
Here's a list of Commercial Campgrounds and RV Parks in the Florida Keys.
Here's a list of the State and National Parks in the Florida Keys and Monroe County.
My first introduction was at the American Outdoor Resort in the Upper Keys. This was in the late 70's. I had no idea what went on behind those fences.
We pulled in with our boat in tow. To my surprise the place was hopping. Almost every RV Site had a camper or tent on it. The people were very friendly. Everything we needed was there. We had showers, laundry, a store and a boat ramp, just to name a few. Don't need much more than that.
We were there for two weeks. As I got to know some of the other people staying there I discovered they were here for the winter season. I never considered running from the cold of winter and staying at a campground in the Florida Keys. Those people had it figured out.
One of the biggest challenges when your camping is what to cook. With enough practice you discover many, quick and east recipes.
The next time we stayed at Long Key State Park. We put our tent right on the beach.
We had our Prindle 16' Catamaran with us. After launching the boat we anchored it out in the water in front of our tent. This made it very easy for us to take the boat out for exploration.
We sailed and dove for a week here. The diving and snorkeling were great.
The facilities have been upgraded from when I was staying here many years ago. All the showers are new.
I like this park because it didn't seem as busy as the other parks.
I came across this Beach Camping Directory that gives you the locations where you can camp at the beach in the U.S. and lots of other countries. If you enjoy camping as much as I do you may want to check it out.
I have friends who come down every summer from the mainland. The love to stay at Fiesta Key Resort, it's a KOA. From what they tell me the facilities are outstanding. They have two laundries, a whirlpool, an Olympic size pool, a restaurant and bar and a beach.
Traveling further down the road is beautiful Bahia Honda State Park. I've never camped here, but I do go there. It's jammed packed with all kinds of things to do. The nature trails are endless. I love going up on the observation area on the span of the old Flagler Railroad . The view is fabulous. If you brought your boat with you it's just 11 miles to Looe Key Reef .
Sometimes I take my bicycle and ride around the park. I have also enjoyed the park on my roller blades.
The very best part of Bahia Honda is Sandspur Beach. It's rated high in the top 10 beaches in the U.S. You can walk for miles down this beautiful stretch of white sand.
I highly recommend that you check out the beach at Bahia Honda State Park. Even if you're not going to stay at the campground. This is my favorite beach in the Florida Keys.
